Biography

Nira Schwartz, was born in Israel.  Her father Aaron Farhi was born in Damascus Syria and her mother Judith Sternkiker was born in Poland.

Nira studied creative art at Haifa University.

She lived with her family four years in Japan, there she met the famous artist Yoshitoshi Mori who invited her to his studio and demonstrated his fascinating printing technique that he developed out of Katazome – one of the Kimono printing techniques.

She was accepted to study this traditional technique in a class sponsored by Mr. Keisuke Serizawa, who carried the honorific title “National Treasure of Japan”.  At that time Nira started to collect handmade Japanese paper.

The discipline of Katazome, together with the unique paper collection that she owned, led to her developing a unique style of miniature collage

During her stay in Japan she became the only foreign member of the Japanese artists association Taiyo Bijetsu and participitated in the annual shows of the association at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum in Ueno Park.  Her Painting "Sen ban Tzuri" (Thousand cranes) was selected together with other members of this group, to represent Japan at Le Salon, Paris.

A gallery owner at Ginza area who saw her painting "The Balcony" invited her to have one man show at his gallery.

Nira is a regular participant in all major Miniature Art competitions around the world and has received numerous awards for her works.  She lives and works in Israel,  married to Dr. Joseph Schwartz, mother of two daughters, Meirav and Noga, and has 5 grandchildren.
